Awarded for outstanding product design
In December 2009, the parquet sanding machine Cobra by Wolff won the renowned Good Design Award in the Industrial category. The award which has been presented annually since 1950 recognises the special and novel product design of the Cobra sander which was developed by bgp design in Stuttgart. Good Design is the oldest and most prestigious award worldwide for outstanding product design.
2009 saw several thousand submissions from 35 nations of which just about 500 could convince the critical jury – and only eight in the Industrial category.
Host, organiser and sponsor of the Good Design Award is the Chicago Athenaeum, Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
An independent international jury consisting of designers, architects and leading experts of culture and arts decided upon the awarding in New York.
The Cobra belongs to the Wolff class – a machine generation of the brand being optimised in design, technology and handling since 2008.
With this machine, Wolff initiated a new era by pushing parquet sanding to an unparalleled level of quality. The progressive design of this safe power pack truly reflects sophisticated and mature technology: Proven Frank know-how is combined with all the trendsetting technical and visual aspects that are so distinct to all members of the Wolff class.
“This award underlines our competence in the machine sector once more. We are very happy that the innovative product advantages for our customers are now documented with this particular and outstanding external sign of quality,” the Chairman of the Uzin Utz Executive Board, Dr. H. Werner Utz, commented the prize awarding to the company brand of Wolff.
“Cobra, the stage is yours”
With all its features, the Cobra greatly reduces workload at building sites. It offers, for example, an eightfold height-adjustable handle to allow for an optimised view of the ground in front of the machine and cockpit operation for greater convenience where all switches are within easy reach in an ergonomic body posture during work. Additional lighting can be switched on. Another advantage is the bag-in-bag system where a disposable inlay in the fabric dust bag reduces dust emission to a minimum. Moreover, the machine features a connection for external dust suction systems.
Apart from the visual treat the Cobra offers to operators, it is also very relaxing to the ears. The powerful motor runs very smoothly and quiet due to a new belt generation. Belts can be exchanged very quickly on this power machine which also features an automatic belt tensioning system. Wolff put special emphasis on an easy adjustment of the wheel set and wall bumper wheels on both sides add to an improved work safety. All these characteristics translate into increased work productivity.
Technology in completion
Additional advantages are its narrow and concise design and its easy transportation due to the comfortable dismantling of handle, motor and dust pipe.
All in all, this power machine opened up a new dimension of parquet sanding for craftsmen in terms of design and technology.
